News Roundtable: The Conservative Leadership Race – who will come out on top?

With Marina Purkiss, Calvin Robinson & Vicky Pryce

A ROUND-UP AND REVIEW OF THE WEEK’S BIGGEST NEWS STORIES

In this week’s ‘News Roundtable’ episode, host Chris Wright joins Marina Purkiss, political commentator; Calvin Robinson, TV & radio presenter at GB News; and Vicky Pryce, economist & former Joint Head of the United Kingdom’s Government Economic Service.

The episode begins with the panel sharing their reactions to the results of the Conservative Leadership Race. They discuss why some big names, such as Jeremy Hunt and Priti Patel, never made it past the preliminary rounds. Is it a positive that some senior ministers never made it through? Together, they share their predictions for who could be in the final two and reveal who they are in favour of becoming the new Prime Minister.

The discussion then moves on to the policies of the candidates and whether the tax cuts that they are promising are possible, and what they will mean for the economy. Is Rishi Sunak the only realist in the room? They debate whether the candidates are trying to appeal to the public, politicians or the Conservative Party members.

Finally, they touched upon ‘The Real Mo Farah’ BBC documentary, where he shared that he was trafficked to the UK as a child. Even though the outcome has been positive, they question if it would have been different if he had not been a gold medalist.

All this and much more debated on this week’s Wright on the Nail!
