A ROUND-UP AND REVIEW OF THE WEEK’S BIGGEST NEWS STORIES
In this week’s News Roundtable episode, Chris Wright joins Isabel Oakeshott, political journalist and commentator, Richard Taylor, political commentator and broadcaster, and Marina Purkiss, political commentator.
The episode begins with the panellists discussing the results of Boris Johnson’s no-confidence vote, and sharing their opinions on whether Boris has lost his credibility and trust with the Conservative party. They question if Boris is putting the party in a negative light since he and Bob Seely were met with boos from the crowd at the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
The conversation then moves on to debate over Jacob Rees-Mogg’s comments of the no-confidence vote being a “remainer plot” to remove Boris as prime minister and lose Brexit. They chew over the success of Boris Johnson’s Brexit policies and whether he has actually delivered what the pro-Brexit voters wanted. They elaborate on what he can do to appeal to all who hold different views of the Conservative party.
Together, Chris and the panellists share their predictions for the upcoming by-elections and the Liaison Committee meeting. They question if the Committee finds that Boris has misled the parliament and whether it will mean the end of his premiership. They also discuss potential successors for Boris and debate why there are no people in the Cabinet who could fulfil the role of Prime Minister.
Finally, they touch upon the events of the Platinum Jubilee weekend and how they brought people together.
